July 04, 2012 06:35 PM PDT
Join us back in time on the 4th of July to hear Cait Leary's music writing excellence.
Minneapolis singer/songwriter Cait Leary just released her debut album, "Let Me Have Tonight," recorded and co-produced with Grammy Award Winner Brett Huus (Bill Miller, Michael Martin Murphey). Leary is a musical hybrid; poppy without the lyrical cliches, jazzy without the training, and sweet with a preference for profanity.
The self-taught guitarist, wrote, performed and co-produced all ten tracks on the album, a dynamic mix of songs that demonstrate Leary's mature songwriting and her child-like curiosity. She coins her guitar style, "finger rhythm," and puts a great amount of consideration into her melodies, naturally drawn into complex instrumentation that is noteworthy in its own right.

SCHOOL OF ROCK
August 04, 2010 08:11 PM PDT
SHANE BASKERVILLE from School of Rock tells us how the kids are rockin here in Minnesota.
Shane has been playing in bands for 18 years. His former local band 'Helva' was the first unsigned band to play Edgefest in front of 30,000 people and was managed by the same management as Sublime. They were also voted one of the top ten unsigned bands in the country by Rolling Stone magazine. Helva also had a song featured on the MGM movie release, "The Smokers." After Helva's untimely demise, Shane moved out to Los Angeles where he played in two major label bands including Virgin/immortals 'us crush'. Shane also played with 80's rock icons Poison for a VH1 special.
While in L.A. Shane played with members of Smashmouth, L7, Frank Zappa, Ugly Kid Joe...he has also played with Columbia records artists 'amen'. Shane has been on the Warped Tour and has shared the stage with Social Distortion, Smashmouth, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, Papa Roach, Story of the Year, Slightly Stoopid, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Sugar Ray, Limp Bizkit, Scott Wieland and many more. He has had an endorsement with German hand made guitars 'Duesenberg' whose fellow endorsees include Ron Wood, Slash, and Collin Hayes from Men at Work.
When Shane moved back to MN from LA he joined the band Kingfield and toured opening up for Platinum selling artists Chevelle.

RIPZ THE HULIGAN
June 28, 2010 02:31 PM PDT
Ripz The Huligan stops by the Independent Stream to represent Hip-Hop.
Hip-Hop and music in general has always played a major roll in Ripz The Huligan’s life. Dating back to when he was only three years old. That’s when he recorded his first ever song at the Minnesota State Fair. It was his version of LL Cool J’s "I’m Bad". Since then, Ripz has recorded many mixtapes with the Fondren Boys as well as making tracks with Ciph of the one time Minneapolis based group The Professionals and recording many songs with the Trapstars, also from Minneapolis. At first, writing lyrics and rapping was just a hobby. Now taking Hip-Hop music more serious, Ripz is on the verge of making power moves, that only true HipHop heads can feel.
